Case Studies

Our work with executive leaders is outcome-focused. Here is a small sampling of the results our clients have achieved.

Challenge

A large insurance entity was about to consolidate three of its companies into one. The newly appointed CEO needed to inform employees of the change, reassure them, and ensure their buy-in. We were asked to run a Speakcheck on her rehearsal of the presentation her marketing group had prepared for her. The results pointed out inherent flaws in the communication, and the presentation was completely revamped based on Speakcheck’s findings.

Outcome

She delivered her first presentation as CEO to a concert hall filled with employees and others listening via webcast. Understanding that their chief concern would be the loss of their jobs, she repeated her key message several times, reassuring them that their employment was secure. She held their attention throughout, and moved them from their initial state of surprise and concern to one of anticipation and excitement. Her leadership was heard and acted upon, and the transformation from three companies into one, was successful. She earned and retained her employees’ trust and respect, and has used her leadership communications capability to solidify her leadership with all other stakeholder groups as well. She is now ready to build her profile outside of the organization.

Challenge

The Executive Vice President of HR was about to deliver a speech. She glanced at the script she’d been given and realized that she couldn’t deliver it; it didn’t capture what she needed to say. She stepped up to the podium and tried to wing it. Determined never to be put in that position again, she asked her communications department if there was a way to measure speeches. We were brought on board, and engaged to run Speakchecks on three different communications the CEO had delivered: a keynote speech, remarks at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), and a presentation to regional managers.

Outcome

Speakcheck’s findings were used to alter that year’s AGM remarks, and the company received the best media coverage they’d had in years. The SVP of Communications then asked us to teach her communications team this work, which we did by integrating the body of knowledge underpinning Speakcheck into 18 hours of action learning.

Challenge

After years of public service, our senior government client had an opportunity to pursue his dream job. He was advised however, to first strengthen his communications capability. When we met with him, he shared his frustration that when he spoke in meetings, whether to peers or direct reports, people would nod, and then 10 minutes later, someone else would say the same thing and get credit for the great idea. This intelligent man wasn’t being heard. He feared the same was true of all his communications.

Outcome

By implementing Speakcheck’s recommendations through our coaching, he landed the job and for a while, felt he had reached the peak of his career. We continued to work with him until one day he announced that he had arrived at the realization that this was no longer his dream job. He had strengthened his leadership presence so dramatically, others had begun to perceive and treat him differently. His leadership skills had become so dramatically enhanced, he now felt he needed a larger opportunity on which to focus his sights and as a result, began to take aim at the top spots within the public service sector.
